Stephen A. shuts down any talk of Chiefs missing the playoffs (1:47)

Stephen A. Smith makes his case for why Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are still going to make the playoffs after a slow start to the season. (1:47)

We're through Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season -- officially at midseason -- and we're taking a quick look at the playoff picture and the road to Super Bowl LX as things stand right now. Which teams have the best chances to make the 14-team playoff field? Which still have a lot of work to do to ultimately get in?

We used ESPN's Football Power Index to project the rest of the season, looking at the playoff picture for both conferences. We included updated odds for every team to make the postseason, clinch its division and even make the Super Bowl.

Here's everything you need right now.

Projecting the AFC playoff field

The Bills made a statement with their win over the Chiefs, dismantling the high-powered offense helmed by Patrick Mahomes. Buffalo is now atop the AFC playoff projections, led by another MVP-caliber season from Josh Allen. Kansas City, meanwhile, has slid back to third place in the AFC West. It still has two matchups against the Broncos, who have the fourth-best defense in the league by defensive EPA.

The wild-card race is heating up, with the Ravens and Jaguars both winning this weekend. Baltimore has Lamar Jackson back from a hamstring injury as it looks to return to the playoffs for the fourth season in a row. Jacksonville won an overtime thriller over the Raiders, and the Jags have the ninth-easiest remaining schedule in the NFL.

Projecting the NFC playoff field

On their bye weeks, the Eagles and Buccaneers retained their top spots, but both have tough matchups in Week 10. Tampa Bay hosts the Patriots, who are tied for the best record in the NFL. Philadelphia visits the Packers on "Monday Night Football." Philadelphia and Green Bay both run highly efficient offenses (the Eagles average 26.0 PPG, the Packers average 25.8 PPG) and have some of the buzziest defenses in the league.

The NFC West is staying competitive, as all four teams won their Week 9 matchups. The Seahawks, 49ers and Rams each have six wins, with San Francisco having the easiest remaining schedule out of the bunch.
